Game Talent Connections on Facebook
For the last several months, I have had conversations with game industry talent as well as developers who are putting together a publishing business. While connecting and engaging through my gamemarketing Twitter account is great, I realized that a bit more advice, resources, and even introductions might be more helpful to games publishers and developers. So, I started Game Marketing on Facebook.
As a Professional Networker, I'm hired to make business connections for clients - and I do a lot of this activity in the games industry. This new FB account allows me to provide business and career development information, and, at the same time, provide connections to those people looking for specific talent or looking for contracts or other opportunities. I always believe that the best way to market is to help others--show that you are doing it--and live it.
Pay attention because what follows are examples of what we've been talking about at Game Marketing on Facebook - pulled right off the page. It starts with me, as...
Game Marketing
"Any of you in the #gamesindustry use B2B search engine http://www.alibaba.com/catalogs/cid/1806/Games.html? Brought to my attention recently by a US Businessman who knows this resource is rocking it. Founded in 1999 - started in China I believe and gained momentum. Now global leader in e-commerce for small biz. More..."
Game Marketing
"Games List on Twibes - If you are in the games industry and on Twitter-list yourself here

Now, here's a thread of interaction with a guy that started with an invitation from me to post your own game-related FB page on my fan page for others to see. Turns out Robert was also looking for a bit of marketing advice...
Robert Smith

"My business has a Facebook game at apps.facebook.com/plantme We take part of the revenue and use it for reforestation efforts. We're looking for good ideas for marketing to spread awareness!"
Game Marketing
"First marketing idea for your game: get a major endorsement - an organization that likes what you are doing to give you endorsing comments - create an agreement with them for co-promotion. Make sure the org is well-known and has great social media "viz." Try to find one that has some ties to your target market. Another thought, there's a very popular network marketing company that's all about "green" called Melaleuca (sp?) - maybe create a deal with them. Lesson here is that whenever you are trying to create awareness, always think big - pools of big."
Robert Smith
"Awesome! Thanks for the feedback. I'm working on connecting with the Nature Conservancy but am going to look into Melaleuca! I'll keep the wall updated on how things go!"

Recently, I had a conversation with a major recruitment firm in London that works heavily in the games industry (tons of major publishers in their client pool). When she said she was looking for talent in Canada - I posted it on the FB page. Within minutes, a first post back --- here's more of that thread:
Vikram Kumar
"I have exp in the game industry in mgmt, mktg & strategy. Let me know if you have anything for me."
Vikram Kumar
"And i am based in Toronto, Canada."
Game Marketing
"Are you on Linkedin - if so - send me your profile link and I'll connect you with some folks"
Hard Circle
"You know I am in Canada and I have talent."
Game Marketing
"So talented you are! Of course. You interested in a gig or a contract gig?"
--------------------------------------
So...if you are in the game industry - come on down to Game Marketing on Facebook Take the opportunity to ask me questions or ask other people questions. If you are a recruiter or could be interested in the talent that visits this page, let me know-we can give you space in the stream to post something! The options are there. If you are someone I need to talk with regarding professional networking -- call or e-mail me mary@marykurek.com.
My colleague, Greg de Lima, sums up best my goal for all on the FB page: "Be meaningful. Being meaningful doesn't mean having phenomenal content, it means having a connection."
We're all about connecting here. Look forward to meeting you.
